The Board of Approval of the Special Economic  Zones (SEZs) met on 22nd September 2008 to consider proposals for setting up of Special Economic Zones and also to approve other miscellaneous requests pertaining to SEZs.
In this meeting, 35 proposals for setting up of SEZs, including 6 proposals for conversion of in-principle approvals in to formal approvals were considered The Board recommended grant of 18 Formal approvals and 10 In-Principle Approvals.

Green signal to 27 SEZs of Rs 72k cr
The Centre on Monday gave the green signal to 27 proposals for special economic zones entailing a whopping Rs 72,000-crore worth investment.Airport-based multi product SEZ in Himachal Pradesh by Skil Infrastructure Limited over 3,230 hectare involving an investment of Rs 4,392 crore got the in-principle nod alongwith Multi Services SEZ in Tamil Nadu by TRAC Technologies India Limited that is proposing an investment of Rs 4,824 crore. The government, so far, has given formal nod to 513 SEZs, of which 250 have been notified and 87 zones are operational.

4 SEZs in Tamil Nadu get in-principle nod Our Bureau
New Delhi, Sept. 22 Tamil Nadu bagged four in- principle approvals for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) among the 10 proposals that got in-principle nod by the Board of Approval (BoA) for SEZs that includes L&T Shipbuilding Ltd-promoted Heavy Engineering SEZ in the State.
The other three SEZs relate to the multi-services SEZ by TRAC Technologies India the multi-product SEZ by Tirunelveli Infrastructure Developers Pvt Ltd and the agro and food processing SEZ by Bhomsiaji Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Other important in-principle approvals for other States relate to the airport based multi-product SEZ in Himachal Pradesh by Skil Infrastructure Ltd and the auto components SEZ in Gujarat and a textile park SEZ in Punjab. |
